As the festive season unfolds, the surge in travel ahead of Christmas has led to a significant increase in traffic volumes on the country's main routes.

The N3 Toll Concession reported a staggering 1,800 vehicles per hour heading towards the coast in December 2023, contributing to a spike in incidents and road fatalities.

Thania Dhoogra, Operations Manager at N3 Toll Concession, emphasized the need for heightened alertness among drivers. Dhoogra urged drivers to remain vigilant, practice defensive driving, keep headlights on, maintain proper following distances, and adhere to posted speed limits.

Department spokesperson Moeti Mmusi highlighted the uncertainty surrounding the causes of traffic accidents, underscoring the importance of driver caution during this festive season.

Mpumalanga Community Safety MEC Vusi Shongwe expressed deep concern over the rising number of fatal crashes in the province, urging motorists to exercise extreme caution on the roads.

As we navigate the holiday season, RPS Security emphasises the significance of road safety. Our thoughts are with those affected by these tragic incidents, and we encourage everyone to prioritize safety, remain vigilant, and contribute to safer roads during this festive period and beyond.
